Lake Thunderbird Marina Closed After Monday Tornado

Monday's tornado damaged or destroyed 270 boats at the marina at Lake Thunderbird in Norman.

NORMAN, Oklahoma – Monday's tornado damaged or destroyed 270 boats at the marina at Lake Thunderbird in Norman.

Boat owners won't get to examine their boats for another 48 hours. In fact, all of Lake Thunderbird is currently closed to the public. Some areas will reopen Monday, but the marina is closed indefinitely.

Aside from the damaged boats, the tornado caused a fuel tank to rupture. It's now spilling fuel into the lake. Crews from the Corporation Commission were expected to start the cleanup this afternoon.
