LANGSTON, Oklahoma -- A suspect was transported to the hospital after a fiery crash at the end of a police chase in Logan County Thursday night.
Langston police attempted to pull over a vehicle during a routine traffic stop when the vehicle took off around 10:30 p.m.
After about a two mile chase, the suspect's vehicle went off a bridge, down into an embankment, hit a tree and then burst into flames near I-35 and County Road 76. The suspect was thrown about 15 to 20 feet from the vehicle.
"The officer lost sight of him and basically followed the cloud of dust, came upon the vehicle as it went over the side. The officer noticed the flames and noticed the vehicle had gone off the guardrail," said Oklahoma Highway Patrol Deputy Chief Paul Bush.
The suspect was transported to the hospital by medical helicopter in an unknown condition.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers assisted Langston police with the incident.
It is not clear why the suspect initially took off.
The suspect's identity has not been released.
