NORMAN, Oklahoma -- In an effort to avoid the rising and record-setting temperatures, the Oklahoma Sooners started their first day of camp early Thursday, kicking off the 2011 season at 6:45 a.m.

Head coach Bob Stoops said he was happy with the way the players came into camp, the same day his team was named the preseason No. 1 by the USA Today/Coaches Poll. The Sooners received 42 of the possible 59 first place votes.

Oklahoma opens the season at 7 p.m. at home against in-state rival Tulsa.
