Wildfire Destroys House In Norman, Evacuation Center Opened

<span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>UPDATE</strong></span>: Firefighters from Norman and several other departments are battling a large wildfire near Lake Thunderbird. Oklahoma National Guard helicopter has been called to help drop water on the fire.

UPDATE: NORMAN, Oklahoma – Firefighters from Norman and several other departments are battling a large wildfire near Lake Thunderbird. Oklahoma National Guard helicopter has been called to help drop water on the fire.

Fire department says the city of Terlton and State Highway 48 area are the only areas evacuating at this time.

The fire started Monday afternoon at 132nd Ave. and E. Cedar Lane Road. Fire department says one home and one outbuilding were lost in this fire. Nobody was at the home at the time. They have multiple agencies fighting the fire.

The city of Norman has opened the Little Axe Community Center for fire evacuees. The address is 1000 168th Ave. N.E. in Norman.

Red Cross say they have teams of volunteers at the scene to assist with firefighters, they will also help with the evacuation center as needed.
