MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- A woman clings to life at OU Medical Center after police say a domestic assault turned into an attempted murder and suicide. It all happened around 9:30 Saturday morning in Midwest City.

Residents say a quiet Saturday took a turn with the sound of multiple shots ringing through the air. Shortly after, police arrived to a crime scene with two victims. One was dead and the other was in grave condition. Neighbor Mike Sederis saw the crime scene from his front porch Saturday morning.

"We've lived here for almost 20 years," said Sederis. "[There's] never any commotion or anything."

Police cars and a crime scene vehicle created a heart-sinking moment of the drama that unfolded just moments earlier. One neighbor witnessed part of the tragedy when she heard a terrifying sound.

"I heard [the victim's daughter] screaming and saying, ‘help me, help me,'" said neighbor Geneva Waller. "Then, I heard two gunshots."

Police say a 45-year-old man opened fire multiple times on his girlfriend. Then, police believe, he took aim at his girlfriend's 18-year-old daughter, but the daughter didn't stick around long enough to become a victim herself. Witnesses say after the gunshots, the victim's daughter ran from the house where the crime was committed to a neighbor's house across the street. That's where she called 9-1-1."

"We have our police chaplain responding to assist the 18-year-old [daughter]," said Brandon Clabes, Midwest City Police Chief.

Police say the gunman had already killed himself by the time officers arrived on the scene. His girlfriend was transported to OU Medical Center, fighting for her life with a grim outlook.

"It appears that it's going to be very, very serious," said Clabes. "So, we don't know at this point. We hope and pray for the surviving relatives that she makes it, but there's a likelihood that she may not."

As police continue to search for evidence in the neighborhood, neighbors are left baffled.

"It shocked me," said Waller. "[The couple] seemed to get along very well."

Police say the couple had just recently moved to the Midwest City neighborhood where the crime occurred.
