Penn State Coach Joe Paterno lets an accused child sex predator have the run of the football facilities, and when it's made public decides he'll step down at the end of the season.

I started reading the grand jury report on the Penn State sex scandal, and I had to stop after a few pages.

Jerry Sandusky, the long time defensive coordinator at Penn State, started a foundation for at-risk boys and is now accused of sexually abusing several of them.

A grand jury says five men knew about--and one witnessed--Sandusky having sex with a 10-year-old boy in the shower, and not a one of them went to the police--not one.

Joe Paterno, the king of Penn State, was told about it by a grad assistant who says he witnessed the incident. Paterno had to know it was a crime, but he told the athletic director and let them handle it from there.

But nobody ever did handle it, and Paterno knew even several years later that this accused pedophile still had an office and access to the Penn State athletic facilities.

Joe Paterno was in no position to decide when he steps down as coach. Finally, tonight, the school's board of regents fired him.

A pathetic ending to a legendary career.
