OKLAHOMA CITY -- Former KOTV anchor John Anderson was selected as the 2011 recipient of the Bill Teegins Excellence in Sportscasting Award, the Warren Spahn Gala announced Wednesday.

The award is given annually to an outstanding sportscaster with Oklahoma ties.

Anderson served as the KOTV weekend anchor from 1990-1996, working with current News On 6 sports director John Holcomb. After leaving Tulsa, Anderson spent three years as a weekend anchor in Phoenix, Arizona, before joining ESPN in 1999.

The award honors former KWTV sports director, and Oklahoma State basketball play-by-play announcer, Bill Teegins, who passed in the 2001 plane crash that also claimed the life of 10 members of the OSU basketball team and staff.
