Mike Stoops' return to Oklahoma is certain, but the fate of OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables and assistant coach Willie Martinez is still up in the air.
News 9 Sports Director Dean Blevins has confirmed from two sources that Venables has been offered the defensive coordinator position at West Virginia.
One coach involved in the process says Venables is expected to make a decision by this weekend because the dead period of recruiting is about to end.
Blevins also confirms that Willie Martinez could join Venables at West Virginia.
One Oklahoma source says he believes Venables will turn down the offer. Clemson and Tennessee are also reportedly interested in hiring Venables.
Venables has not returned our calls for comment.
Coach Venables has served at Oklahoma since 1999. He started as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach and then in 2004 he became an associate head coach and defensive coordinator also coaching the linebackers.
News 9 will update as more details are available.
