With the 2012-13 athletic season completed, Oklahoma State finished as a top-30 overall program in both the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings (27th) and in the men's division of the Capital One Cup standings (23rd).

OSU was the highest-placing school from the Big 12 in the Capital One Cup men's final standings and trailed only Oklahoma and Texas among Big 12 schools in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup final standings.

The highlights of the 2012-13 athletic year at OSU were an NCAA title from the men's cross country team and a second-place finish from the wrestling team. For Dave Smith and the cross country squad, it was their third NCAA team title in the last four years and it brought OSU's all-time NCAA title tally to 51, a mark that ranks fourth in the country and first in the Big 12.

Other top-25 placements from OSU in this year's Learfield Sports Directors' Cup came from men's indoor track and field (eighth), women's golf (12th), men's golf (14th), women's basketball (17th), women's tennis (17th), baseball (17th) and women's outdoor track and field (25th).

From an individual standpoint, wrestlers Jordan Oliver and Chris Perry were both crowned as NCAA champions and women's track and field standout Natalja Piliusina won the national title in the outdoor 1,500 meters. For Oliver, it was the second NCAA individual title of his career. Perry and Piliusina were both first-time champs.

Oklahoma State won 2012-13 Big 12 team titles in men's cross country, wrestling (both regular season and postseason tournament), equestrian and women's golf. OSU athletes combined to win 13 Big 12 individual titles and four OSU standouts were recognized as the Big 12 Player of the Year in their respective sports – Marcus Smart (men's basketball), Jordan Oliver (wrestling), Kelsey Vines (women's golf) and Quinn Sharp (football – special teams).
