DEL CITY, Oklahoma - Del City Police are saying Tuesday night's shooting was a drug deal gone awry.

Nearly a dozen bullets were fired at a man in his car when he pulled up to the home. Neighbors say things on their street have changed since the people renting that home on the 800 block of Fontana Drive moved in. They say Tuesday night is evidence of that change.

Neighbor Paula Richards said she darted back in her home after hearing and seeing gunshots Tuesday night.

“I am looking this way and there is a car parked there just in the drive in the street. And then all of the sudden I heard gunshots and then I saw flashes and then I heard some commotion over on the side and I ran back in the house,” said Richards.

Del City Police say what Richards saw was the result of a drug deal gone wrong. Police say the 44-year-old victim showed up to buy drugs at the house, but instead was peppered with bullets.

Police estimate the two suspects fired about 10 bullets at the victim and his car, at least one bullet hit the man in the chest before he sped off.

“It's kind of scary to think that you live in a neighborhood that there could be having a drug deal go down and someone could, you know, be shooting,” said Richards.

A woman on Fontana Dr. who didn't want to be identified, told News 9 she and other neighbors have grown concerned about the safety of the street.

“They are just talking about how much trouble we've had ever since they moved in to that house,” the neighbor said.

Police confirm that there have been other instances of criminal activity at the residence. Del City Police say, despite the victim's injuries, he is expected to be OK.
