Benefit Planned For McLoud Officer Injured In Crash

The general manager of McLoud's Love's Country Store said a benefit lunch will be held for an officer who was injured in a crash in December.

The general manager of McLoud's Love's Country Store said a benefit lunch will be held for a police officer injured in a crash last month.

McLoud police Officer Alan Smith driving a patrol car on Dec. 16 and was hit by a garbage truck on Highway 102 near Parkwood Road. The officer's car was struck on the driver's side, pinning him inside for nearly an hour.

Officer Smith was critically injured and spent some time in a medically-induced coma. A press released stated Officer Smith has a 5-year-old son, a fiance and a baby on the way.

The benefit lunch will be held Sunday Jan. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Legion #224 located at 129 N. Main Street.

It's $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. All proceeds will go to the Smith family.
