Police in Guthrie are looking into a crime spree with a group of teenagers as the prime suspects.
Officers were called to Highland Park after a neighbor saw a car crash into a ditch, and four teens running away.
“Two of them were apprehended pretty close to the area,” Guthrie Police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs said. “Another had run and come really close to the junior high and administration building.”
The junior high was locked down while that teen was nabbed. As it turns out, the car was stolen. The thief, according to police, carjacked an elderly woman near Spencer and shoved her to the ground. Police also believe the teens were involved in a burglary.
“They were carrying some backpacks and once those backpacks were opened there were several electronic items, some jewelry that were found.”
County sheriff’s investigators tell News 9 one of the teens was wearing a watch from the burglary when he was busted.
Dominga Qualimaco is the mother of one of the teens and the aunt of two others. She says they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“They weren’t involved,” she said. “I mean, the witnesses that they had went over there and told them that they weren’t involved. But since they got the car and they had evidence in the car they accused them of doing it.”
Qualimaco says her nephews and daughter accepted a ride from a friend, not knowing the car was stolen or that there were stolen goods inside. Police aren't buying the story though and are charging all four teens.
