The OSBI announced that bones found in a farmer's field in Blaine County back in June are that of a man wanted for murder. Those skeletal remains were found near State Highway 51 and State Highway 58.

Christopher Blake Scruggs, 23, was wanted for shooting and killing 18-year-old Caylee Massey inside a truck bound for Canton Lake. The deadly shooting happened back on October 28, 2015.

The brutal shooting rocked the small town of Canton, especially once word got out that the alleged gunman was still on the loose.

According to the OSBI, at first authorities were told that Scruggs was a hitchhiker picked up by Caylee's friend who was driving the truck. But now, the OSBI says that's not the case and that he was part of the group in the truck on the way to Canton Lake.

But Jessica Brown with the OSBI says evidence still shows Scruggs was the one who shot and killed Caylee.

“We also know there is another individual inside the vehicle when this happens,” said Brown. “And so we have investigated that angle, we have spoken to that individual, and we were able to get quite a bit of information from her.”

Brown says they have also interviewed the driver of the truck.

The father of Caylee Massey says all he wants is justice for his daughter.

“I think the other people in that truck are the key to what happened that night,” said John Massey by phone this afternoon. “We need these people to tell us exactly what happened, not the story two hours later after that happened, not the story that was made up on the road trip. We need the truth. Not only does the Massey family need the truth, the Scruggs family needs the truth so there can be closure and the grieving process can start for both families.”

It was just this May that John Massey made a public plea for help, hoping someone could help authorities find his daughter's killer. Now that the OSBI has announced Scruggs was found dead himself, he is left grieving for Scruggs family too.

“My heart went out to his family because they have suffered not knowing where he was at and what happened,” said Massey.
