The Salvation Army is already preparing for Christmas, but the organization is hoping to get some additional community support.
The nonprofit needs Spanish speaking translators to help with one of its holiday programs.
Each year the Salvation Army holds their Angel Tree Program. This helps give families that normally wouldn't have enough for presents the chance to have some gifts.
Staff said this year they will probably serve around 2,000 families in Oklahoma City.
They estimate over 50% of those to be Spanish speaking. Liz Banks, the local Volunteer Coordinator said translators will help bridge the communication gap and help the Salvation Army understand what their child needs or wants.
The organization said it's looking for around 20 translators...or hopefully some that can work multiple shifts between 12:30-4:30 p.m.
Ultimately staff said volunteers can help them reach out to thousands of families.
"We're helping the latino community especially those who cannot speak English who have big needs and are very low income," said Victor Canizales, a current translator.
"We need to know the size exactly what they're wanting...coats, shoes...a toy...something for school. So we want to fulfill the desires of that child's heart," said Banks.
Anyone interested should contact Liz Banks at (405) 246-1107.
