Oklahomans woke up to damage on Tuesday morning to find three tornadoes tore through Ada and surrounding areas overnight.

The tornadoes struck while many were sleeping, heightening the storm's danger. The severe weather system intensified near Sulphur before moving east into southeast Oklahoma, particularly Pontotoc County.

Jim Gardner reported that one tornado touched down near Highway 1 and Reeves Road, moving northeast through a mobile home park before crossing railroad tracks and hitting another neighborhood.

Ada Public Schools are closed Tuesday in response to the damage.

News 9's Alexis Young, reporting from the scene, described the area as a "total war zone."

The Union Valley Fire Department was destroyed, and firefighters are assessing what equipment can be salvaged.

"It was like someone was shooting nails through a nail gun," said Ronald Huff, a resident whose home was damaged. His chicken coop and tin roof were blown into nearby trees.

Debris now blankets much of the affected area as residents assess the storm's impact.
