A two-vehicle crash on Sunday evening resulted in the death of Amber Leafty, the wife of Luther Police Chief Johnny Leafty, according to authorities.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred around 5:22 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 66 and State Highway 102 in Wellston. Leafty, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene by Survival Flight and transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

A second vehicle was also involved in the crash. That driver was transported from the scene and was admitted in 'good condition'.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Trooper Chad Pape of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and airbags were deployed in both vehicles. The weather was clear, and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.

The Luther Fire Department issued a statement confirming Leafty’s passing, describing her as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was well-known in the community for supporting her husband and local law enforcement.

“The bond between Luther PD and Luther FD is one of the strongest around, and we truly care deeply for one another,” the statement read. “Our hearts ache for the Leafty family and our Luther PD family. We ask that you keep them, as well as our entire community, in your prayers.”

Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
