Edmond North Wrestler Wins 3rd Straight State Championship

To say she is one of the best in the state would be an understatement, she’s one of the best in the country, and by the time she graduates from high school, she may be one of the best in the world.

“I started wrestling in the first grade, so I was about seven years old,” said Edmond North High School wrestler Bella Williams.

From the beginning, she was really good at it, but being good wasn’t her motivation.

“But I think the first time that I realized that I wanted to keep doing this, was when I really had my first loss, I realized, I hate this feeling,” said Williams. 

Now a junior at Edmond North, Bella puts in the work, making sure she doesn’t have that losing feeling ever again.

“I wrestle high school at my club in the afternoon and then later in the evening after that practice usually I’ll get a third workout so that can be at A regional training center,” said Williams.

Charles Jones is Bella’s wrestling coach at Edmond North. 

“Super, super competitive young lady as well as a perfectionist, she loves to workout, loves to train,” said Jones.

“So she won her freshman year, she was undefeated, her sophomore year she was undefeated, her junior year which we just capped off she was an undefeated state champion,” said Jones.

“I won a tournament in Spokane Washington that qualified me Team USA for my age group which is youth seventeen,” said Williams.

And still with one more year of high school the sky really is the limit for the talented wrestler.   

“She has the chance to be an Olympian one day,” said Jones.

When Williams isn’t competing or working out, she loves reading and coaching, working with the next generation of young female wrestlers.
