The City of Oklahoma City has announced changes to its tornado siren system in the wake of devastating storms that swept across the state Monday and Tuesday.

In the past, the city said all 182 sirens withing city limits would go off when a Tornado Warning was issued, but now the city plans to use the projected track of a tornado so sirens only go off in areas of immediate danger.

"If you hear a tornado siren in oklahoma city you need to take cover immediately," Oklahoma City public information officer Kristy Yager said.

When sirens do go off, first responders recommend the lowest and most interior part of a home, or an underground shelter or basement.
