The Sulphur community is working to rebuild the heart of their city after an EF-3 tornado destroyed homes and buildings Saturday. The Coca Cola Porch is highlighting how Oklahomans are coming together and stepping up after the tornado outbreak.

News 9's Jordan Ryan was in Sulphur with Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief showing us how volunteers are stepping up.

“We've got these guys here that are preparing food and getting ready to send it out to serve this community and the other communities around that need help. And we have chainsaw teams that are here that are working with homeowners,” Jason Yarbrough, state director with OBDR, said. “So right now, we've identified about 50 different homeowners that are needing help that have come through us. And so those folks are out there beginning to work on those homes and clear up that debris that they've experienced.”

Clearing up storm damage can be traumatic for some homeowners.

“It does bring a smile to their face when we show up on their property because we are bringing that help and that hope and a little bit of healing along the way,” Yarbrough said.

The volunteers with OBDR stay on cots in local churches.

“These guys don't get luxury and they don't get paid for what they do,” Yarbrough said. “They're doing this out of the love in their hearts and just an opportunity to serve.”
