The student who died was involved in a fight at Owasso High School on Wednesday of this week, police said.

At this time, investigators are not sure if the fight played a role in the student's death.

Police said they were called to the hospital on Wednesday because a student was sent there after a fight at the high school.

Police said they were not notified of any fight before being called to the hospital.

The student was later sent home from the hospital. Then on Thursday, the student was rushed back to the hospital where they were later pronounced dead, police said.

Faith Crittenden is with Family and Children's Services and is part of the team that goes to school districts to provide resources when a student dies.

She said this is devastating for friends and fellow students and it's important to provide support.

"Take that time and sit with your child, talk about how you're feeling because if you can talk about 'I was shocked to hear this, I'm feeling really sad and unsafe', If you model that for your kids then they may be more open and receptive," Crittenden said.

Police are not sure if the two incidents are connected or what happened to her on the second day.

In a brief statement, Owasso Public Schools said, "The Owasso Police Department has notified district leaders of the death of an Owasso High School student. The student's name and cause of death have not yet been made public. As this is an active police investigation, we will have no additional comment at this time."

The cause of the student's death has not yet been determined.

Owasso Public Schools said counselors will be available on campus Friday for those who need them.
