Oklahoma State’s women’s basketball team kept pace with No. 11 Texas for three quarters, but ultimately fell short, 76-66, Saturday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowgirls were out-rebounded by 15 in the game and outscored in the paint, 40-24. Texas made just one three in the game and scored zero points off the bench, while OSU got all but two points from its starters.

With the loss, Oklahoma State falls to 11-7 on the season and 4-3 in conference play. The Cowgirls will travel to Cincinnati for another conference battle on Wednesday before returning home to take on No. 12 Baylor next Saturday.

Anna Gret Asi led all scorers with 22 points on 8-10 shooting. Hannah Gusters added 14 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter while Lior Garzon added 11.

Texas opened the game with its highest-scoring quarter, using an 8-0 run midway through the period to take a 20-14 lead into the second. Garzon scored eight of her 11 in the first quarter, but the Cowgirls as a team committed six turnovers in the frame.

The Longhorns continued to score at a high level in the second quarter, but Oklahoma State managed to keep the game within touch. Stailee Heard put up six of her nine points in the quarter as the Cowgirls trailed 39-30 entering the halftime break.

OSU found a rhythm offensively coming out of the half, getting 11 points on 4-4 shooting from Asi in the third quarter. The Cowgirls managed to tie the game at 45 with 5:28 to play but would be behind, 57-53, heading to the fourth.

Oklahoma State’s offense would come to a halt to begin the fourth quarter as Texas opened the frame on an 8-0 run. The Cowgirls shot just 28.6% from the field in the period, and a pair of Asi triples in the final minute would be too little, too late for OSU as it fell 76-66.

The Longhorns had four players score at least 15 points in the game, led by Madison Booker’s 19. Taylor Jones posted 18 points and 14 rebounds in 35 minutes for Texas in the win.
