City Of Collinsville Works Toward Becoming Film-Friendly Community

Oklahoma's movie industry is booming, and one Green Country community is working to draw in more big-time filmmakers.

The City of Collinsville said it has more resources now than ever to help bring the community to the world.

Community Outreach Coordinator, Sherry Campbell, said city officials recently attended workshops to become a certified film-friendly community.

The workshops talked about how Oklahoma is in a great position for a lot of opportunity, because of its location and the increase in state aid for movie makers.

"They talked about how the state of Oklahoma has really stepped up and they have some incentives for filmmakers who want to come to Oklahoma," Campbell said. "Collinsville is unique because we are also a part of the Cherokee Nation."

She said the city is looking forward to working with the Cherokee Nation's new film studio in Owasso.

"So, we're in a really good position to be able to work with the Cherokee Film Commission as well as the Tulsa Film, Music and Arts and Culture Commission," Campbell said.

The City of Collinsville is following steps to become certified. That certification could happen as soon as next month.
