A family-run vegan spa and café in Tulsa said because of its success, it is expanding again

The owner told News On 6 that the concept has been popular, so she is adding another element to the business.

Along Route 66 in the Meadow Gold District, there is a vegan spa and café that prides itself on being "naturally different."

Mon Amie, which means "my friend" in French, opened three years ago.

Owner Hannah Lee, who is from Vietnam, said she came up with the idea in 2020.

"I'm thinking about like, 'I have to do something exclusive, do something that's not only beauty but also healthy,” said Lee.

There are vegan options for food and drinks, plus facials, waxing, lash extensions and nail services.

The business also makes its own peel, scrub and mask using ingredients from its own garden.

It is a family affair for Lee. Her sister and daughter, Livia Luu, work here.

"I'm really proud of her business to thrive, and I would want that for her, too,” said Luu, a nail technician.

Plus, Lee's father, who lives in Tulsa, makes most of the furniture.

"Handmade, no machine,” said Lee. “He just does it by hand because he said, 'I have time to do it.'"

The staff here come from diverse backgrounds, including Vietnam, Indonesia and Afghanistan.

"We all respect each other from where we come from, and I think that we all have an interest in making people feel great about themselves,” said Luu.

Staff will soon grow. The business is getting ready to open a head spa, focused on scalp treatment, a few doors down, where the original Mon Amie was before it expanded a year ago.

"When I started with Hannah, that's where I started, so I think that's really exciting that she's grown so much and has a really good business,” said Sheri Curry, a frequent customer.

Lee said she is grateful the community has embraced her concept and fusion of cultures.

"I would like to have Americans know our traditions, our culture, and I would like we know American culture, too,” said Lee.
