A man died after his motorcycle crashed into a car along Highway 51 just east of Wagoner, The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

The motorcyclist was identified by OHP as 18-year-old Carter Mullins.

Mullins was heading eastbound on Highway 51 on Thursday afternoon when he crashed into that car, OHP said.

The roadways were closed for hours during the investigation. Troopers said they think Mullins was moving at a high speed.

An Inola police officer who witnessed the crash tried to help that man until other first responders got to the scene. That officer said this is her first week on the job.

Officer Kimberly Sharp with Inola Police was heading back from Tahlequah when she saw the crash.

She said the man was thrown from the motorcycle, it rolled off into a ditch, and caught on fire.

"It was pretty intense but my training kicked in and I knew what to do. I worked in 911 before this, then I also worked in the jail, so I have first responder experience and basic first aid," Sharp said.
