Governor's Office Clarifies Position On Cockfighting After Video Of Stitt Indicates Support

The governor's office said that Stitt is not in favor of cockfighting or any other form of animal cruelty. Governor Kevin Stitt's office is now clarifying the governor's comments on cockfighting after a video posted to his YouTube page showed his support for the Oklahoma Gamefowl Commission.

The governor's office said that Stitt is not in favor of cockfighting or any other form of animal cruelty. The Governor posted a video on YouTube last week supporting the Oklahoma Gamefowl Commission, a group that has backed legislation that would reduce cockfighting from a felony to a misdemeanor.

The governor's offices added Governor Stitt often records videos for groups to promote things that are important to Oklahoma like agriculture.

In the video Stitt, said that the commission plays a big role in preserving the Oklahoma heritage of competition and comradery.

"I wanted to take a moment to cheer you on from the sidelines. You all know Oklahoma's long and storied history with gamefowl, from statehood to today. Oklahomans like yourselves remain dedicated to the spirit of competition and comradery that runs deep in our communities..." said the Governor. "We need to protect the nearly 5,000 gamefowl farmers across Oklahoma."

YouTube removed the governor's video for content violations on Monday. A copy of the video was posted by NonDoc. See the full video below:
