The families said they will never forget their children's lives, but a new memorial bench gave them a way to keep their memories alive for others as well.

Family members of Kylee Weaver remember her the best way they know how.

"She probably would have been like, let's drop a fishing pole in," Weaver's mother, Kori Fletcher, said.

They said she loved nature, and the memorial bench was a great addition to their memories.

"I miss her so much; she was a great kid. She was an amazing kid," Kylee Weaver's Mother and Aunt said.

But it isn't just memories they've held on to. They fought for justice for Kylee and the 2 other students who would never come home from school again.

"My kid doesn't get to come home. I don't get to see her ever again. How is that okay?" Fletcher said through tearful eyes.

Kylee Weaver, Ethan Gibson, and Cyra Saner were killed in a car wreck while they were off campus getting lunch on September 15th, 2022. Their friend, who was driving, pled guilty to manslaughter and DUI, but because her case was handled by the Office of Juvenile Affairs, their families wanted to make sure she got a strict punishment.

"They were trying to figure out if the treatment plan would work for the victims and for them, and it didn't work for us," Kylee's Aunt Jeanie Blatchford said.

Fletcher and Blatchford were District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler saw that, too.

"He's just as mad as we are, and that meant something to us because we don't feel like we were being heard, no, at all. And I feel like we're being heard now," they said.

As more people began to listen, these families continued to look for peace. They knew they could find it at the memorial bench.

"It's not our job to protect them anymore. It's our job to keep their story alive," Blatchford said.

The family said the memorial bench is a way for everyone to remember the Sand Springs 3.
