A metro driver admitted to police she panicked after hitting a man crossing the road last week. Oklahoma City police said on Tuesday the man was not expected to survive his injuries.

Police said 37-year-old Anna Layes turned herself in at downtown headquarters a few days after the crash. Crime Stoppers tips helped investigators identify Layes as the driver.

Pictures of a driver in a white Mustang hit social media last week. Police posted the photos in hopes of identifying the person behind the wheel.

“We were given tips leading to the location of the vehicle,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department.

The car was last seen leaving the scene of a hit-and-run crash last Monday night in southwest Oklahoma City. Police said the driver hit a man crossing south May Avenue under the Interstate 240 bridge. The victim was left in the roadway.

“The person was transported to an area hospital not expected to survive,” said Quirk.

Police said Layes came forward three days later and spoke to detectives about the night of the crash. Layes admitted to driving the Mustang. In court filings, Layes told investigators she did not see the victim in the road until it was too late. She claimed to have swerved around the victim but hit him when he tried to run. Layes said she panicked and left the scene.

“They were ultimately booked into jail on various complaints.

Those complaints included leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and causing an accident with great bodily harm without a valid driver's license.

Police said the District Attorney will most likely upgrade the woman’s charges when the victim passes away. At last check, the victim was in the ICU on life support at OU Medical Center.
