2 Arrested In Connection To Killing Of Pregnant Woman In 2020

There’s a new development in a three-year-old case involving a pregnant woman’s murder in Chickasha.

Ashley Cannon was eight and a half months pregnant when she and her unborn baby, Nala, were found dead inside an apartment in 2020.

“Please, please I’m asking you with everything in my soul,” said Cannon’s sister Alisa Brown back in 2020. “I’ll give you everything I have, just to bring him to justice.”

A married couple is now facing charges in connection to the killing; the man is charged with first-degree murder and the woman is charged with helping to cover it up.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, 37-year-old Kenneth Lee Johnson and his wife 39-year-old Katrina Johnson are behind bars, both facing charges in the murder case.

“She lived in apartment 9,” said Marlna Steels, who lives at the Virginia Street Apartments where the murder occurred.

Neighbors met outside in the courtyard of the complex on Friday, pointing out where Cannon lived with her two young sons and remembering the night of November 30, three years ago.

“They had actually run over to a neighbor to let them know that they had found their mom,” said neighbor Christina Barbine.

Court documents filed this week show Cannon sent a Facebook message less than an hour before her murder stating “Bd here just in case he act stupid" the document also states a friend told investigators “Kenneth Johnson was listed in Cannon’s phone as Bd,” and that the father of Cannon’s baby “wanted her to have an abortion.”

“It's terrible and she didn't deserve to die,” said Steels.

The probable cause affidavit shows Johnson's wife, Katrina Johnson, confirmed a relationship between her husband and the victim. A blood-stained t-shirt was also discovered, according to the document. OSBI confirmed through DNA those blood stains were a match for Kenneth Johnson and Cannon.

“It's very sad, scary and this world is just crazy,” said Barbine.

Kenneth Johnson is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and his wife, Katrina Johnson, faces accessory to murder in the first-degree charges, for helping to conceal items of evidence, including the blood-stained t-shirt.

“I get chills because I think they needed to be caught, her and that baby need justice,” said Barbine.

Kenneth Johnson is currently behind bars in the Lawton Correctional Facility on a previous charge. Katrina Johnson was arrested in Oklahoma City, awaiting extradition to Grady County.
