A 16-year-old girl from Oklahoma was shot in the face, and the incident was caught live on Instagram.

The shooting happened back in August when 16-year-old Anyra Sikes and her sisters were home alone.

Her mom says two teen boys, who they knew, came to their house with guns.

They began playing with the guns, pointing them at each other while recording a video. The boy recording then pulls the trigger, shooting Anyra in the jaw.

“All I heard was the gun go off. But I didn’t feel the shot hit me. I thought it hit my sister,” said Anyra.

Anyra and her sisters would jump on an Instagram live listening to music. It's something they do all the time. But on this night, two of their teenage friends showed up with guns.

“If I could change her name to Miracle…Because honey that is exactly what you are,” said Anyra’s mother Latakaer Surney speaking to her.

Anyra’s mom Latakaer, says she’s talking today in hopes of changing the story for another child and family.

According to everystat.org, the rate of gun deaths in Oklahoma has increased by 31 percent from 2012 to 2021.

Meaning that in 2021 there were 217 more gun deaths than in 2012.

Surney says there was no need for these teens to have guns.

“My heart goes out to all over the world. The ones who lost their kids to gun violence,” said Latakaer.

Anyra is still recovering, after going through surgery. Her jaw was wired shut and she still wears a neck brace. But Anyra says she has her eyes looking forward.

“[I want to] go to college for cosmetology and to be a CNA,” said Anyra.

As for the family, their house became a crime scene causing them to move. Anyra’s mom worked fewer hours to make appointments, and the girls all changed schools.

“It's right around the corner from where the incident happened. I want to move them from there to give us a fresh start,” said Latakaer.

Midwest City police say they cannot release any information at this time as the case includes all juveniles.
