1 Dead After Shooting Involving Oklahoma Highway Patrol Near Stroud

One person is dead after a shooting on the Turner Turnpike near Stroud, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

OHP said the shooting began after a trooper pulled the truck over for a traffic stop on the Turner Turnpike.

OHP confirmed that the trooper asked for K-9 assistance before a physical altercation occurred on the roadside and in the truck.

OHP said the driver attempted to flee with his truck while still engaged in the altercation with the trooper.

OHP said the trooper alerted the communications center that shots were fired. They confirmed the driver was fatally shot and pronounced dead on the scene, although the trooper was not injured.

OHP confirmed that the identity of the driver is not being released until the next of kin is notified. The trooper is being placed on administrative leave until the investigation by the Creek County District Attorney is complete, according to OHP.
