All work and no play make for a boring day. So, the workers at Paycom’s headquarters, just off John Kilpatrick and Memorial, got out the canoes to have some fun.

“National payroll week at Paycom is many things but it is friendly competition between the departments,” said Tiffany Gamblin, with Paycom.

The employees at Software giant Paycom have a huge responsibility.

“Our employees work so hard all year long, and with our innovative technology we were able to pay over six million workers last year alone,” said Gamblin.

So, in celebration of national payroll week, it was time to hit the water for some not so friendly canoe races.

“They are very competitive, and today the top teams will have a chance to do the canoe races,” said Gamblin.

As employees came out to support their departments, the teams were getting ready to hit the water.

“I know that we’ve got a strong stack and we’re athletic, and we have the most motivation and drive to win,” said Samantha Williams, with Paycom’s Human Resources Department.

“We’re here to represent legal and beat some other people in this race,” said Manish Rajwar with Paycom’s legal department.

Some team members had other concerns.

“Very excited and also just hoping to stay in the canoe would be the goal,” said Gamblin.

So as the races began the employees cheered on their departments. But in the end, there could only be one winner, and that was the legal department.

“We won, yeah absolutely,” said Rajwar.

Rajwar feels they had the perfect strategy.

“We just had belief in ourselves, we knew we were hard, we ate a lot of doughnuts this morning and we were ready,” said Rajwar.

In victory they had one message for the other teams.

“We won because we were the best, and it’s hard for other people to hear that It’s hard to be modest but we’re just the best and that’s all it is,” said Rajwar.

In the end there was only one team that actually ended up in the water, but for everyone else it was a great time.
