In 2020, the lives of three Moore cross-country athletes were cut short by a tragic accident. Now, a scholarship in their name will help other runners go to college, and every year Moore High School athletes run to remember their fallen teammates.

The Run 4 Rachel, Kolby and Yurridia is Moore’s annual home track meet to honor the three students who were hit by a truck and killed during a team run in 2020. Runner Aidan Jimenez said three years later, the team still remembers.

"We like to dedicate our runs to them," he said.

"There are flags that represent Rachel, Yuridia and Kolby along the course and so the runners get to pass by those and it's a really special moment for our team to get to take the flags out to those spots," said Amy Givens, the cross country coaches wife and a member of the booster club.

She says they want to dedicate even more to their memory.

"It's really important for their legacy to live on,” Givens said. "For our team for our community and for our school."

In collaboration with the Moore High School Alumni Association, a scholarship was created to honor the three runners.

"It definitely means a lot to those families to know that their kids’ lives will continue to live on in our community," Givens said.

This was the third annual Run for Rachel, Yuridia, and Kolby, but the first to fundraise for the scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded specifically to a student-athlete on the Moore Cross Country and Track team.

"It's for a bigger picture you know not everything is for us," said Jimenez.
