Bodycam Footage Released Of Tecumseh Teacher Charged With Public Intoxication

A teacher was taken into custody, arrested, and charged with public intoxication according to the incident report.

The Tecumseh Police Department was called to Cross Timbers Elementary to conduct a sobriety test, and found teacher Jennifer Davis unfit for her duties.

It can be heard in the bodycam footage,

Police: “How much did you drink?

Davis: "Just a glass of wine, nothing major."

Tecumseh Police responded to the call at 8:45 a.m. on September 7, 2023 according to the incident report.

“We received a call yesterday morning from the school superintendent letting us know that he felt like he may have a teacher that was in the classroom who could be under the influence of alcohol,”  said Tecumseh Police Chief Jr Kidney.

A substitute teacher was immediately placed in the classroom upon the teacher's removal.

“They asked if we would send an officer to perform a sobriety test. So, our officers responded to Cross Timbers Elementary School where they performed a field sobriety test. And they felt that the conclusion of the sobriety test was that she was under the influence and ultimately she was arrested for a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication and transported to the Pottawatomie County Safety Center where she was processed,” said Kidney.

The teacher has resigned and is no longer employed by the school district, and administration is looking for a replacement.

“She was not driving, she was in the school setting, so she was arrested for public intoxication," Kidney said.
