As schools across the state revise security policies for athletic events, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association said it has no minimum standards.
Mid-Del superintendent Rick Cobb said his schools have thrived under the OSSAA, but he also believes times are changing and the association needs to change them.
In the letter, Dr. Cobb laid out his district's current protocols: metal detectors, requiring student IDs, keeping fans on respective sides and requiring younger students to remain with adults.
While he said the letter is not meant to be critical of districts that don't have the same rules in place, "it's within the association's purview to set minimum expectations."
The letter comes after the OSSAA said it leaves security decisions up to schools.

“The schools deal with security issues everyday so they don't need us to tell them how to keep people safe,” OSSAA Executive Director David Jackson said.
A spokesman for OSSAA told News 9 Wednesday afternoon that due to monthly appeals meetings, the board may not have seen the letter yet.
However, he did say this has already been added as a topic for discussion with the board members at their meeting next week.
