The district attorney's office says these situations are preventable and this case sends a strong message about driving under the influence.

The jury found Collertt Boyd guilty of one count of first-degree manslaughter and four counts of driving under the influence.

Collertt Boyd is facing a possible 47 years in prison for his role in that crash.

It happened two years ago in McClain County, just two days before Christmas.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said Boyd was under the influence when he rear-ended an SUV and crashed through a cable barrier into oncoming traffic.

Chandra Crutsinger, who he killed, was on her way to spend the holiday with family when she and her two sisters were hit by his car.

Crutsinger died, but her sisters survived.

The district attorney presented evidence that Boyd was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

"This is the reason why it is so important to not drive while intoxicated," said Alexis White, the Public Information Officer for the District 21 DA Office. "It's really unfortunate when these cases happen because they could have been prevented. If someone did not make the decision to drive while under an intoxicating substance."

The jury has only made a sentencing recommendation.

“The court process is very difficult, obviously, and no amount of time and no sentence can bring back that loved one or undo the trauma of what happened," White said. "But our goal is to seek justice and to represent those who have been the victims of crime."

An official sentencing hearing is set for the beginning of October.

News 9 has reached out to the family and friends of Crutsinger but have not received a response at this time.
