A Canadian County Sheriff's Deputy is sitting behind bars, accused of raping an inmate that he was transporting between jails.

"The Canadian County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from OSBI in a sexual assault complaint that involved a deputy," said Hunter McKee with OSBI.

The incident happened on July 20th, and OSBI was called in July 25th.

"A Canadian County deputy was transporting an adult female from Bryan County to the Canadian County jail," said McKee. "In that transport process he stopped in a remote location."

The now former deputy is Wesley Hunter Jr., and he stopped near State Highway 70 and Antioch Road in Marshall County. What happened next sparked an investigation that went all the way up to OSBI.

“That's when he sexually assaulted that female passenger," said McKee.

The sheriff in Canadian County told News 9 that the second this situation crossed his desk he turned it over to OSBI.

"This spanned over multiple counties so of course there was a lot of people involved and a lot of area that we had to cover and investigate when we first got this news,” said McKee.

OSBI's investigation was swift.

"I think that's a big tribute to our agents," said McKee. "Being able to track down the location, that was a huge help in order to make this go as quickly as possible."

Just days after the agency got involved, an arrest was made.

"Based on their investigation, they arrested that deputy and booked him into the Marshall County jail," said McKee.

Hunter is now facing second-degree rape complaints.

"That's all that we're seeing right now, but of course this is an ongoing investigation so we're going to continue to look into this," said McKee.

OSBI says this arrest is a result of all parties working together.

"The OSBI would like to thank the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office," said McKee. "It took all of us to track down what had actually occurred and find justice in this case."
