A 17-year-old was killed in a Midwest City shooting, another teen now facing murder charges. It all happened Saturday, May 6 in Midwest City near Northeast 10th Street and North Air Depot Blvd. Police said several teens ran after the shooting, two ending up in Delbert Alt’s Lyft.

“That's the thing, you don't know who you're picking up,” Alt said.

Which was the case on Saturday when Alt unknowingly picked up two armed teenagers.

“They were being suspicious the whole time in my opinion,” Alt said.

He didn’t realize at the time, but he picked the boys up not too far from the crime scene. Police say a disturbance led to a shooting, killing 17-year-old Calvin DeHuy Walker, Jr. Minutes into the ride, Alt’s cameras inside his car show Midwest City Police officers on his tail.

“A few seconds later they hit their lights and started pulling me over right away,” he said. “I told them as we were pulling into the parking lot of the apartment complex that we were being pulled over and I didn't know why, and they didn't say a word.”

The video shows officers walk up to the back passenger doors, opening them and then taking the teens into custody without incident.

“It was a little bit alarming, but I’m calm under pressure,” said Alt.

It wasn’t until later when he looked back at the video inside the car, that he discovered what the teens were concealing.

“I was a little bit more concerned during the time I was looking at the passenger behind me, pulling out a .38 Special out of his jacket,” he said.

Court documents show the teens were in possession of firearms, one being a 9mm and at least one 9mm shell casing was found at the scene of the shooting. Alt said looking back, he definitely feels something could have happened to him. Even though it didn’t, he said he is going to take a break from doing Lyft rides.

“It just makes you think about it,” he said. “I have grandkids and daughters and sons, so I want to be there for them.”

Police say a 17-year-old faces a first-degree murder charge for the death of Walker. The teens in the Lyft car have not been identified.
