FTC Announces New App Safety Plan For Children

The Federal Trade Commission said Facebook's parent company Meta misled parents and failed to protect the privacy of children on its Facebook messenger app for kids.

The FTC proposed changes to a 2020 privacy order that would ban it from profiting off data collected from minors. It would also include its virtual reality products and other safety measures.

Meta said it plans to fight the changes calling the announcement a "political stunt" and accused the FTC of encroaching on the authority of the U.S. Congress.
