Thirteen months after Kingfisher Public Schools rejected $1.5 million to settle a hazing lawsuit, attorneys for the plaintiff have doubled down.
In a new settlement offer, set to expire in fourteen days, attorneys for John Doe, a former Kingfisher High School football player, demanded $5 million.
The plaintiff’s attorneys warned the settlement offer would balloon after fourteen days.
John Doe, a former Kingfisher High School football player is suing the district and coaches for years of abuse.
The former student claimed he was attacked in the locker room with pellet and paintball guns and said his helmet was urinated on.
He said Hall of Fame Coach Jeff Myers allegedly referred to it as "breaking in the freshman."
Audio recordings reportedly captured a football player threatening his teammates.
“[Witness] after I get done legit kicking you’re a**, and then taking a big ol’ [expletive] in your mouth, I’m going to go and beat the absolute [expletive] out of [John Doe]. Like he thinks I’m kidding, but I’m going to beat his ass, and if he dares tell his mom, I’m going to go kill that [expletive].”
And while the outcome of the suit has not been determined, in a thirteen page demand letter Wednesday, the plaintiff’s conditions, in an effort to settle the suit, were outlined.
It said Kingfisher Public Schools would have to terminate Coach Jeff Myers, and pay the plaintiff $5 million.
It also said the district had fourteen days to agree to the settlement and if further delayed, the payout would double to $10 million.
According to the document, if both offers were allowed to expire, the plaintiff’s attorneys said they planned to take the case to trial.
News 9 reached out to the law firm representing Kingfisher Public Schools but did not hear back.
