OKC Surgeon Completes 1,000 Surgeries With Robotic Arm

An Oklahoma City surgeon and his team have completed more than 1,000 surgeries with a robotic arm. 

Integris Health’s Dr. Gerardo Myrin treats plenty of people who experience pain daily. 

“That’s why I do this,” said Myrin, as he prepared to perform a robotic partial knee replacement. 

A woman inside the operating room felt that discomfort, but soon she won’t hurt anymore, thanks to a surgical robot and all the experience inside the Integris OR.  

“With our crew, it’s pretty efficient,” Myrin said. 

Myrin's team knows the drill by heart.

“Oh honestly, it’s really fun,” Myrin said. 

Their routine experience can’t be denied once someone witnesses their symphony of organization playing throughout the operating room.

Myrin and his team have completed more than 1,000 surgeries in just more than four years. Myrin will never take credit for the statistic.

“It takes a village really,” Myrin said. 

However, surgical services manager Boston Brock believes in Myrin’s ability.

“It’s amazing,” Brock said. “I trust him so much that my father had surgery with him this week.”  

No one is just a number to Myrin. Patients are people.

“We treat them like family,” Myrin said. “That’s why we can do it. Day in, day out.”

This woman will walk out of this hospital within about a day after her surgery.  

“The significant reduction in pain,” Myrin said. “When that happens, people get back to doing what they wanna do.”

Myrin prescribes something everyone wants to feel -- peace of mind and body as they put their best foot forward. 

“Take care of all these people and make them better,” Myrin said. “Get rid of pain.”

“It’s remarkable,” Brock said.
