News Facilities Coming To Norman, Mustang Schools After Voters Pass Bonds

Norman and Mustang communities will soon have new school upgrades. That’s thanks to voters in both school districts.  

Needs like school supplies all the way to building upgrades, football stadiums, and fine arts centers require school districts to ask people for money or bonds. The Norman Public Schools website has a thank you note because taxpayers in the community said yes. Years of planning at school board meetings transformed a wish into a future thanks to 67.8 percent of voters. 

“It was bold, but it was visionary,” said Justin Milner, Associate Superintendent of Norman Public Schools. 

The community's decision to pass Normans more than $350 million means Norman Public Schools will construct a new football stadium at Norman North High School and make upgrades to its 17 elementary schools. 

One unique future addition is the district’s High School Aviation Academy which will sit right next to the airport and serve 500-600 students.  

“We’ll be able to build a high school really for the price of an elementary,” Milner said. That’s an incredible opportunity for us.”  

Voters with Mustang School Public Schools also said yes to a nearly $177 million bond. This money will help build a new elementary school and expand the high school.   

“It’s one to pass the bond. It’s another to follow through with what you said,” Milner said. 

Milner knows fancy facilities only matter when they help students learn and grow. 

“This is all about kids and teachers,” Milner said. “That’s what drives us.” 

Now the physical work begins to help more children succeed. 

“Making sure all students have some opportunities,” Milner said.
