A 28-year-old woman delivered a baby and is on life support following a crash in Pontotoc County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the crash happened at around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on State Highway 3 near Ada, Okla.

A vehicle driven by Henry Nwajagu, 36, was traveling eastbound on the highway when another vehicle driven by Lauren Smeltz, 28, was traveling westbound.

Nwajagu’s vehicle traveled left of the center and crashed into Smeltz’s vehicle, according to OHP.

Smeltz was transported to the hospital in critical condition where she was put on life support. She was an expectant mother, who was nine months pregnant when the crash happened, and the baby, Violet, was saved through an emergency C-section.

Smeltz was pronounced brain dead and was put on life support, so she can be an organ donor.

According to OHP, Smeltz was pronounced dead on Jan. 6.

The three passengers in Nwajagu’s vehicle were transported to the hospital in stable condition, and one has been treated and released.

Troopers said Nwajagu was not injured.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This is a developing story.
