Two people were killed in a crash Saturday night in Pottawatomie County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

A vehicle driven by Keith Upton, 69, was traveling eastbound at around 10:21 p.m. on Oklahoma State Highway 9 when another vehicle driven by James Smith, 68, was traveling southbound on South Rock Creek Road, OHP said.

Troopers said Smith failed to yield from a stop sign causing Upton to crash into the vehicle on the front right quarter panel.

The drivers and a passenger were pinned for an unknown amount of time before being freed by Tecumseh Fire Department.

Troopers said Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger, Elizabeth Smith, 68, was transported to the hospital where she died.

Upton was not injured in the crash, according to OHP.
