A family is woken up in the middle of the night to a car in their living room.

The family did not want to go on camera but said smoke and pieces of the house were flying everywhere.

Police told News 9 the man behind the wheel is now behind bars.

“I was out with my friends, and I just drove up there were firefighters and police cars. The police actually stopped me right there and said, ‘you have to go around,’” said Irene Marino who lives in the neighborhood.

She said it was a startling scene that unfolded early Friday morning.

“Around 2:30 a.m. officers received a phone call to the residence of NW 21st and May, a vehicle had crashed into a home in that area,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Police later identified the driver as 21-year-old Angel Sanchez who crashed into the home off May Avenue.

According to the incident report Sanchez was yelling for help and was stuck in the overturned vehicle.

“Officers got there they found that the driver had crawled out of the vehicle, exited through one of the windows of the residence there,” said Sgt. Quirk.

“I could see inside their house. It looked like a tv set. Like just no fourth wall basically,” said Marino.

One resident who lives inside the home said he was asleep in his room. His brother was on the couch in the living room when the car went through their home.

“Fortunately, the residents and her three children that were inside at the time of this collision were unharmed. That is really the best part of this story,” said Sgt. Quirk.

“The car was just unrecognizable; it took me a minute to realize it was a car. I was like ‘the house exploded’ that is the only thing I can see. There was definitely a car in there, but the wheels were up,” said Marino.

The family said they were still in shock as they boarded up their home and cleaned up.

“The driver had shown some signs of impairment ultimately, he was arrested and taken to a hospital to be checked out but ultimately booked into the Oklahoma County Jail,” said Sgt. Quirk.

According to the report, Sanchez was arrested on a DUI complaint and presenting a false ID.
