Oklahoma City traffic investigators are piecing together a tragic crash on Tuesday that involved an elderly woman. Police have identified the woman who died but said there were still questions about her death.

Investigators are waiting on the state medical examiner’s results of 88-year-old Charlotte Johnson’s death to determine if a medical condition or episode caused the deadly crash.

The crash involved two cars just after 9:30 p.m., however only one driver survived.

“There were no other injuries at all in this crash,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “She was the only person who was hurt. Sadly, her injuries were fatal.”

Officers said Johnson was unresponsive at the crash site near northwest 150th and Santa Fe Avenue and was rushed to OU Medical Center. The driver of a Jeep told traffic investigators he was stopped to turn left into a neighborhood when for an unknown reason Johnson did not stop.

‘When officers arrived, they found that one vehicle had simply rear-ended the other,” said Knight.

As investigators collected evidence from the scene, other officers had to notify Johnson's family of her sudden passing. Police did not report where the elderly woman was going or coming from before the crash.

“We don’t know anything at this point,” said Knight.

Police said it could be several more days before they receive the medical examiner’s findings.
