Law Enforcement, Edmond Community Honors Sgt. C.J. Nelson

Edmond Police Sergeant C.J. Nelson was on duty when a pickup truck struck his motorcycle, killing him. Wednesday would have been his 13th anniversary with the department. 

His death has left the entire community with broken hearts as they pay their respects. A memorial shrine was put up in front of the Edmond Police Department and it has been filled with mementos honoring the officer. 

Officers from across the metro took part in the procession from the State Medical Examiner’s officer to the Crawford Funeral Home. 

"I just think it's when you interact with someone and they're a part of your community it hits a little different," said Justin Holderfield while at the memorial.  

"I was at the bank and I saw this and it just kind of saddened my heart to see it," said John Alsobrook while he visited the shrine as well. 

"Coming out here just to show a little bit of respect for the man that did so much for the city of Edmond. It felt like I needed to do it," Holderfield said. 

Holderfield is a wrecker in Edmond and has worked with the fallen sergeant. 

"When I saw the accident, I saw it was an Edmond police officer and being a motorcycle cop, I definitely had a couple people in mind. Started praying that it wasn't any of them," Holderfield said. "You know we've had interactions with Sgt. Nelson. He would come in our shop and goof off with us and was just an amazing man." 

Now he and the rest of the community have come together for the people Sgt. Nelson left behind. 

"There's a huge community here that loved your husband and your dad. He was a good man and Edmond will still be here for you guys," said Holderfield.
