Some much-needed rain fell across Friday afternoon and evening across Oklahoma City. Businesses on the city's northeast side were among those hit hardest by the storms.

Most of the debris came from a construction site for a new wellness center.

People who work along Northeast 36th Street said things took a turn for the worse as the 5 p.m. traffic thickened.

“You couldn't see nothing (sic). It was dark,” Latrisha Titus said. “It was blowing. It was blowing.”

“We were just standing here by the window,” Sergio Shacon said. “You couldn't see anything. It's like the water was waves. It was like waves of rain.”

The downburst of strong winds and a thunderstorm knocked out power at several businesses. A construction worker said supplies flew off the roof of a MAPS 3 project site, got into the road and onto property of other businesses.

“Most of it, it's pretty destroyed,” construction worker Sebastian Castaneda said. “Once it gets wet, it's not useful at all. We got a bunch of broken insulation boards scattered throughout the jobsite here.”

According to News 9 Storm Trackers Val and Amy Castor, they reported seeing quarter-sized hail and 60 mile-per-hour winds in addition to the rainfall late Friday afternoon near Yukon.

As of 10:25 p.m. Friday, more than 6,500 OG&E customers (6,582) are without electricity in Oklahoma City.

As many as 13,572 OKC customers lost power earlier Friday evening.

The company released a statement in response to Friday's power outages.

We have mobilized additional personnel to assist with restoring power across the service area as safely and quickly as possible. Crews will work to restore service throughout the night and into tomorrow.

OG&E also advises people to stay safe and stay away from downed power lines.
