Oklahoma City Animal Welfare had a big weekend after a public plea for help due to being overwhelmed with animals.

Things are starting to turn around and it’s thanks to a big adoption event.

Over the weekend the shelter was packed, but this time with people.

The shelter published a report card that said 81 dogs and 12 cats were adopted during the weekend adoption event.

This makes a huge difference because they were so overwhelmed with animals.

The shelter is meant to hold up to around 279 dogs and there were more than 450 in the facility.

The shelter waived adoption fees to encourage people to come out and so far, it’s working.

People waited hours over the weekend to get a pet and several people also stepped up to foster.

That is another great way to help the shelter.

They say they still need fosters and adoptees to maintain this low number.

So far, adoption fees are still waived so now is the perfect time to adopt.

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is open every day from noon to 5:30 p.m.
