Beggs and Lincoln Christian kick off the high school football season for the News On 6 Week Zero game of the week.
The Beggs Demons have high hopes for the 2021 season. Running back CJ Brown, who will play for Oklahoma State this next fall, has a lot to do to wrap up his senior season.
The Demons have been state runner-up twice in the last four seasons, and 11 seniors believe this is the year they will raise the gold ball.
"These guys are different, these guys are wired a little different, you can see it in the locker room,” head coach David Tenison said. “I think they feel a lot hungry.”
Leading the way is running back Brown, who has rushed for more than 60 touchdowns in his career and is primed for another big season.
"He draws 22 eyes. We have to try and make some adjustments as we go with our game plan," said, Tenison.
"You know, I see what I see, I don't like to go down with one little hit, I try and stay up as long as I can," said Brown.
He has made even bigger strides off the field going from a 2.0 GPA to 3.0 in just two years. It’s been all possible with the help of his coaches and the community of Beggs.
“I was at a low C and they’re up to B's and A's,” said Brown.
"That’s why we are here. I tell people we are here to raise young men and every now and then a football game is going to break out,” Tenison said. “And to see all that happen, it’s so rewarding that’s ultimately why we coach.”
Game time is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Christian.
