The Cherokee Nation is closing its in-person registration office this month due to COVID-19 concerns.

In a Facebook post, the tribe said that the closure will allow staff time to sanitize and address the backlog of citizen applications. According to the tribe, it has prepared a secure vault for people who want to drop off those applications.

The office will be closed starting Monday, August 9 and reopen on Wednesday, September 1st.
